Competition format and rules
Entries are invited from children who live or go to school in the St Albans District, including Harpenden, Redbourn, Wheathampstead, Sandridge, Park Street and London Colney. Categories are divided into Primary and Secondary, for soloists and ensembles as follows:
Primary Instrumental Ensemble
Secondary Solo Voice
Secondary Solo Strings
Secondary Solo Wind and Brass
Secondary Solo Piano/Organ/Percussion
Secondary Vocal Ensemble
Secondary Instrumental Ensemble
There is no fee for entry.
Winners in the five Solo categories will each receive a cash prize and certificate; winners in the seven ensemble categories will be awarded a certificate and trophy. Winners of each category may be invited to perform at an event in St Albans Cathedral later in the year following the finals.
The Competition Finals, which will be held again in the Cathedral Nave, will be on Sunday 25 February 2018 starting at 1.30pm.
Entry will be by recording in the first round, submitted via this website. Entries should be no longer than 6 minutes. Entries will then be judged by a preliminary panel, and finalists invited to perform live in the Cathedral. Categories may be amalgamated at the discretion of the judges.
Prize winners from the 2017 competition are not eligible to enter this year.
